How to Throw a Wedding Reception Your Guests Will Love

How to Throw a Wedding Reception Your Guests Will Love

Planning a wedding is no walk in the park, and things can get overwhelming—fast. From managing your budget, staying on top of each vendor, coordinating travel logistics and everything in between, it can be easy to forget the whole point of the event—to have fun!

While some nitty gritty planning is an essential part of bringing your wedding to life, it’s important to remember that there’s no rules when it comes to your special day. Your wedding should first and foremost be memorable and unique to you and your fiance—that’s a given! But when it comes to the reception, you might be wondering what you can do to wow your guests and make sure they have an unforgettable night celebrating you and your honey.

Challenge Your Guests to a Dance-Off

If you’re looking for an exciting way to kick off your reception and give your guests a great party, consider throwing a dance-off for the wedding guests. You can work with your wedding DJ ahead of time to make a curated playlist of upbeat jams that no one will resist dancing to! To put a competitive spin on things, have your wedding party serve as the judging panel and watch as guests go toe-to-toe in an epic dance challenge—make sure to announce the winner at the end!

Add a “Wedding Day Dares” Jar

Sometimes it can take a little time for guests to loosen up and make their way to the dance floor once the reception kicks off. To help ease them into it, this “wedding day dares” jar idea is perfect to help break the ice. It’s also great for helping guests get to know each other—especially if you invited a lot of different people from various friend groups who may not have met before your wedding.

All you need is a mason jar, basket, or whatever container you choose (and that fits your wedding decor!). Print out the wedding day dares page below and cut the dares out, place them in your container, and station it in a central area of your reception venue that your guests will see. Then, have guests take turns drawing from the jar and watch as they engage in the silliness they’re dared to do!

Use “Notes for Newlyweds” For a Special Touch

For a thoughtful way to involve your guests in your wedding reception, print out the Notes for Newlyweds cards and place them on each table for your guests to fill out. It’s a unique way to capture some special messages from your guests while the wedding is still in full swing, and gives them a chance to pass along their marriage advice, encouragement, and love in the form of a keepsake that you can hold on to forever.

While every wedding is unique, they all share the same goal of bringing a couple together in union surrounded by their closest family and friends. No matter what special touches you choose to incorporate into your special day, what matters most is that you have a wedding day to remember!
